Today, we were supposed to take a snorkeling expedition, followed by ATV-ing and speed boat driving. Well, since SOMEone forgot to pack tennis shoes for herself, we had to postpone that to Wednesday and head out to the shopping center instead to pick up some shoes.
Since we were up early, I was able to capture an awesome sunrise from our balcony.
We hopped on the bus and headed toward the shopping centers. The bus dropped us off a little before the shopping centers and Josh decided to channel his inner gangsta.
We were able to find some tennies for me and started back to the hotel. We found a little restaurant on the lagoon side on the way back and stopped to grab some lunch.
This was the doorman:
The restaurant was under a huge palapa and had a little dock for boats to pull into and the people were able to enter the restaurant on the lagoon side.
After lunch, we hopped in a taxi and headed out for the ATVing and speed boat insanity! We were the only two people on this tour so we were able to push the limits a little more. I didn't get any pictures of the ATV riding because there was sand flying everywhere but the guide was very nice and let us stop by the water and let us take pictures there.
When we got off the ATV's, I realized that my bottom had gotten a little sweaty. Eeesh.
I didn't get any pictures during the boat ride because we weren't allowed to take anything on the boats with us. Boo! It was for our own good though because water was splashing all over us and we were soaked by the time we were done.
After playing all afternoon, we headed back to the hotel for a shower and some dinner. And this was waiting for us. Elephant??? Anteater??
We'd asked one of the activity planners at the front desk where we can go to find some authentic Mexican food. She enthusiastically recommended the hotel restaurant: Alamo. So off we went.
After chips and salsa,
we got the tostada plate. There was a beef, chicken, chorizo, and an avocado tostadito on the plate. We were hoping it was going to be a bit bigger... It was so incredibly yummy though and you really did need more than one bite to enjoy it!
For the main course, we both ordered bacon-wrapped filet mignon in a chimichurry sauce. Um, not exactly what I'd call authentic Mexican but it was the only thing on the menu that we knew we would like. Even though the menu was in English!
We started to notice a theme with their food/restaurants in that it was a little more chi-chi than we're used to. At this point, we could've gone for a greasy taco, cheesy enchilada, SOMETHING Mexican!
Yea, married!!
We hung out by the pool again for a little bit, ordered some drinks,
and talked about the plan for the next day: Tulum!
After we went back to the room, things started to get a little heated....
...because Josh was getting upset at FOX NEWS!!! Lame.
