Here are the pics from the parade:
He's happiest when he has something to chew on. Thankfully, it wasn't my shoe...
We didn't feed the dogs before we left so this is Josh getting Legion's breakfast of a hotdog. Hey, it's the 4th of July. Hot dogs are mandatory!
And Legion making friends.
My frozen treat. I'm not sure what they're actually called but I call them Mexican Popsicles. You usually buy them from Mexican guys pushing a cart with little bells on it. It's almost like frozen frozen yogurt on a stick - if that makes sense...
These are the people that made Legion almost jump out of his skin.
The Grand Marshal kicked it off. How does one become a Grand Marshal? And even more, what IS a Grand Marshal???
The parade of fire engines.
The first San Juan school bus.
ENOUGH WITH THESE HORNS!!
There were quite a few classic cars in this year's parade. Including one of the ugliest cars ever in production. And look how cute she is driving it with her matching hat.
The Shriners were there!!
The PT Cruiser car club was there and this fool was showing off. Nice car, dude.
Josh said this guy is a Sac Sheriff SWAT officer, I think. He's probably a Captain or something and I'm waaay off...
I guess anybody can walk in the parade. Josh and I were thinking of forming a group of Carmichael dog owners to walk next year.
Legion says he's ready to go home.
After the parade, we ran a couple of errands and bbq'd some steak and corn for dinner. The kids got the leftovers.
We can see the La Sierra fireworks from our house but we wanted a better vantage point so we got up on the roof. I almost had a heart attack getting up and down from there but I made it safely. Josh said he was proud. ;)
The fireworks were just okay this year; we thought they were better last year. But hey, it was free and we were able to watch them at our house. We didn't want to go anywhere because we didn't know how Legion would react and if we'd come home to him having busted out of his crate...
After the grand finale at La Sierra, we let off our own fireworks. Can I just say that Safe & Sane should be renamed Safe & LAME??? It used to not be a good fireworks show unless someone got burned...
This one was actually a little crazy. It lasted quite a while and in addition to catching fire halfway through (mom, you would've loooooooved that), it really did emit a shower of sparks. So much so that I jumped back for fear of singing my clothes. So take heed when the warning is there!!
We had such an awesome day! It's always great to be able to take the kids places with us, and even more so when they're not acting like nutballs when people come up to meet them.
Josh left for Ontario on Monday morning so we weren't able to stay up much later than the fireworks shows.
On a side note: Josh and I have been together for 5 years now. Crazy!!
