Annual February Snow Day

President's Day weekend has become our annual Snow Day weekend and this year we were so excited to take the *baby* to see the snow for the first time. All of the dogs LOVED it and we loved the fact that they slept for the rest of the long weekend.

This was how Legion was laying for most of the car ride. He wanted to make sure that daddy was driving the right way.

We were glad that we had a gorgeous day this year. Last year, what is normally about an hour drive to Donner rest stop took us about four hours. And then it was closed...

We got to Donner and hiked away from the rest of the people that were there. The dogs couldn't wait to get playing!

The kids will follow their daddy anywhere.

Maybe they shouldn't because it got Abbi thrown down the hill!!

Abbi puttin' it in 4WD to get back up the hill.

Legion coming back up the same hill.

Some *gorgeous* scenery shots from Donner rest stop.

My little posing baby!

After Donner rest stop, we headed to Donner Lake. There's always been too much snow for us to go down to the water but we got lucky again!

Abbi channeled her inner Michael Phelps again and decided to go swimming in the lake. Remember, this is February....

The kids were having a blast, cruisin' up & down the lake shore and playing in the lake.

After Donner Lake, we headed into Truckee to eat at a restaurant where Josh installed a drive-thru system. On the way there, we passed by a doggie boutique. Of course, we had to stop.

After the doggie boutique, we headed to the restaurant. I'm not a huge fan of rotisserie, but this place was gooooooood!

I had to take a picture of the sign and what the sign was warning against. The snow was melting so I made sure to walk FAR AWAY from where it would fall. YIKES!

The boys were tuckered out! Actually, all three were sleeping but I couldn't get a picture of Abbi because she was in the corner right behind me in the truck. They had a huge day and then a good-sized snack of mom & dad's rotisserie leftovers.

It was an awesome day!! Josh and I feel very fortunate to have such a great family.

On our way to the snow!

My husband. Oh, how I love him.

I don't think that I can ever get enough of little Abbi snuggled on the couch under a blanket.

February 10, 2010

This was a slow-cooker recipe called "Easy Cheesey BBQ Chicken." I think it should be called "Cook Time Too Long Super Dry Chicken." It was just...okay... Not something that we will probably ever have again. But hey, we wouldn't have known that if we didn't try! Well, maybe I can cut down the cook time and give it another shot. The salad was good though!

Homemade minestrone soup. Well, it's kind of a minestrone soup....I didn't follow the recipe exactly. And to Josh's disappointment, I didn't add any meat. It was really good though and it made enough so we had leftovers AND enough to freeze. I also made some pesto sauce so that's what the little flecks are in the soup.

February 8, 2010

Legion has graduated from sticks to pieces of wood from the wood pile to pulling branches off of the rosebush to small-ish rocks to yanking out strings of ivy to his latest: pieces of concrete. My hand is there to show the size of the thing. The dogs were quiet so I went to check on them and met Legion trotting back into the house with this in his mouth. As soon as he saw me, he dropped it on the floor. I didn't know what it was until I picked it up. Crazy freakin' dog! I have no idea where he got this because it looks like there is a piece of terracotta stuck to it. Josh and I looked in the backyard and weren't able to determine if anything is missing. So I guess we'll find out if/when he brings more in or when something falls down because pieces of it are missing...

Abbi's Birthday

It was Abbi's 4th birthday on Sunday so we celebrated with a birthday cake for her. Josh wanted to give it to her right away so all of the dogs got birthday cake for breakfast.

Of course, they had to wait patiently to get it.

After the cake, we walked them down to the dog park to wear off some of their energy because we knew that we'd be couch surfing for the rest of the day watching the Superbowl. Most of the pictures are of Legion because we wanted to get some of him to send to the breeder.

Abbi was playing Queen of the Mountain on the wood chip pile.

As usual, the little princess got spoiled on her birthday. After eating a big breakfast, walking, and playing hard, she climbed on the couch and cuddled up with "her" blanket.

Another not-so-important thing happened today: the Superbowl. The first half of the game was good (the Colts were winning) but the second half and the outcome weren't so good... This is what we thought about it:

February 7, 2010 - Abbi's Birthday

Happy 4th Birthday, my little girl!! You make your daddy and I very proud. You went from a mouthy, chewy, destructive, pushy, attitude-y, button-pusher of a puppy to a well-mannered, loving, cuddly, attitude-y adult dog. As the smallest of the pack, you sure use your size to your advantage. Especially when it comes to snuggling with momma or daddy on the couch: there's always enough room for you. You've come a long, long way in the time that you've been with us and we're looking forward to all of the years that we still have!

C25K (Couch to 5k) running program. We haven't started this yet because we were waiting to get new running shoes. We've got 'em now and will be starting soon!! Now we need to find a local 5k race about 9 weeks out for our motivation...

MMMMMMMMmmm.....

February 4, 2010

A fully stocked pantry!! I love that when planning out our weekly meals, we have most, if not all, of the ingredients. On another note, I love Walmart...

February 3, 2010

I question the intelligence of people sometimes... I mean, really, what is the reason for this???

February 2, 2009

My new toy!! We finally broke down after using disposable roasting pans and bought a "real" one. While I didn't notice any difference in the taste of the chicken, it sure is more environment-friendly. Because we all know how much I care about the environment...

As Josh was pulling up to the house today, he called me outside to see a "bada$$ rainbow." The picture doesn't quite capture the bada$$-ness of the rainbow though. Please don't judge my husband for enjoying things like pretty rainbows. He really is quite manly. ;)

Awwww....lookit the cute puppy face! Now lookit the bad puppy face. He chewed the heel of my shoe... Bad momma for leaving them out!

January 30, 2010

Okay, these weren't as good as I had hoped... It's puff pastry filled with sliced banana and a dollop of sugar-free apricot preserves. It was very banana-y so maybe if I make these again, I won't put so much banana in it... Oh, and it was only 4 WW points!

January 29, 2010

Freakin' DE-LISH! BBQ'd ground beef with Italian spices and parm mixed in. Veggies grilled in a foil pouch with olive oil and salt. A pesto-like mayo. All on a hard roll.

January 28, 2010

Lemme just say that IT HURTS to stub your toe on this freakin' thing!! While it's good to keep a 105-pound chewing machine occupied, it's not so good to find in the middle of the floor in a dark room...
