Legion's finally home!!

On Friday evening, we went to the airport to pick up the pup. This is our first look at our new baby boy:




We then took him to Petco to get a new collar and leash. Boy, did we get some questions! We need to get used to that though because as he grows, people will just become more curious to see what kind of horse he is. These next pictures were taken outside of Petco.







On the way home, I dropped Josh and the pup off at a nearby field then ran home to grab the other two mongrels to go back to the field and meet the new pup. It's best for the two existing dogs to meet the new pup this way, rather than bringing him back to their house. The pup was still tired from his huge day and all he wanted to do was lay at our feet. So back home we went. The first evening was pretty uneventful. Josh ended up sleeping on the floor next to Legion's crate the first night just so he wouldn't feel abandoned.

This dog really is too much. When he's hungry or waiting to be fed, he'll sit on that red mat and just watch you prepare his food. And just to put his size into perspective: Hayden (far left) is 2 years old and 70-ish pounds, Abbi (center) is 3.5 years old and 60 pounds, Legion (far right) is 10.5 weeks old in the picture and weighs 22 pounds.

He took to the toys really quickly. His favorites so far are the rope toys and the Nyla bone. He's a chewer!!














We got through the first night and into the weekend. But on Saturday night, we noticed that his ears were really bothering him and that he'd actually popped a couple of stitches on his left ear. Poor baby!! We called our vet on Sunday morning and he told us just to bring him in on Monday and they'd get everything cleaned up. And that is why we continue to drive up to El Dorado Hills for vet services!! I took him in yesterday morning and the vet got him all re-stitched and cut him loose. They don't see many Cane Corso dogs at our vet so he was quite popular yesterday. Until he bit a tech's boob... Evidently, in addition to being a chewer, he's also a biter. But I don't, and they didn't, blame him. His ears were bothering him and all they wanted to do was touch them.

After the sedative from the vet wore off, he turned into a different pup. He's crazy and all he wants to do is play!! I think we got spoiled/fortunate with Hayden because he was such an easy puppy. And we forgot about what a terror Abbi was... We can tell just how much his ears were hurting just by the difference in his behavior. He's running with and after the dogs now, jumping at them, and biting their ankles. Take that, Hayden! They're crated right now so the pup can start to get into a routine and so it won't be so difficult on him when I go back to work after my pup-ternity leave. And so I can get some rest and regain some of my sanity. They're definitely keeping me on my toes!! He's already getting the hang of potty training too. Yeah, there have been a few accidents, but it's mostly our faults because we didn't take him out soon enough after he played. We're already working on sit and lie down because it'll be much easier to train him while he's still relatively small, rather than when he outweighs Hayden. At 6 months or so... Puppy kindergarten and formal training will start as soon as he gets his last shot and is cleared by the vet.

One awesomely cool thing: the breeder crate-trained the pup. That takes a LOT of work off of us. He actually goes into his crate to lie down when he's tired or to play with a toy. And no mom, he's not sad in this picture. It was taken at about 10:30 at night and he's just pooped from the day.



We already love this little guy so much and think that he'll make a really good addition to our family!
