Since summer has finally found the Sacramento area, we took the dogs on their first trip of the year to the river at Ancil Hoffman park yesterday morning. Early. We're hopefully going camping next month near a reservoir so we wanted to see what Legion's reaction to the water would be. He was veeeeery interested in it but not quite ready to swim. I think though, because of his size, we'll need to get him a doggy life jacket with a little handle on it, should we need to pull him out.... Yes, they really make those. Of course, Abbi jumped in and swam without problem, Hayden stayed on the shoreline, ready to steal her fetched stick, and Legion watched it all, very curious about the water. We had to have a leash on Legion because he hasn't yet proved himself to be trustworthy offleash. The time where we chased him down the length of two soccer fields and into a group of buildings, scaring the bejeezus out of a woman there with her dog... Yeah, he's gonna be onleash for a while.
All three dogs had a blast and passed out for the rest of the day. They were still tired this morning too. Love it!

We threw Abbi's duck trainer into the water, expecting her to go in after it. But no, away it goes. Thanks, Abbi...

Legion stepped off the ledge and completely submerged himself. Freaked us out for a sec but he popped right back up and was ready to get back at it. Crazy dog...
Then we ended the day with some ice cream; some for mom & dad and some for the kids. We had Dryer's though.
We all had a great time and can't wait for the opportunity to get back out in the water with them!

I miss the river days in Sac. Looks like everyone had fun. Kind of a silly question: do they make sunblock for dogs with short hair?
We all had a blast!!
I'm sure they do make doggy sunblock but you can use human sunblock (the spray kind), most likely for a fraction of the price.
